FYI: You Won’t Be Able to Reach the IRS These Days

Did you know that the IRS goes dark every year on Memorial Day? At least, their e-filing systems do. It’s called the annual Memorial Day Systems Shutdown, and while it sounds a little like a summer kick-off headbangers festival, it’s kind of the opposite. The annual Memorial Day Systems Shutdown is the time the IRS takes to perform routine maintenance to its Modernized e-File Systems (MeF). Basically, this means any e-filing (even with us, unfortunately) cannot be completed during this time.

This year, the Memorial Day Systems Shutdown begins today, May 26, 2017, at 5:00 p.m. EST and ends on Tuesday, May 30, 2017, at 6:00 a.m. EST. During this time, the IRS asks that we all refrain from transmitting business, individual, or state tax returns, as well as from submitting any other service requests.

But hold onto your hats, folks, because that’s not the only time you won’t be able to e-file in the next few weeks! E-services will also be unavailable starting Thursday, June 15, 2017, at 6:00 a.m. EST and ending on Monday, June 19, 2017, at 5:00 a.m. EST for further system maintenance. Again, the IRS asks no one e-file anything during this time, including ACA applications and TIN matching requests.

During these times, you won’t be able to access the IRS’s e-filing system at all. You will, however, still be able to access your ExpressTaxFilings account and do anything you need to. If you end up transmitting a form during these times, don’t worry, they won’t automatically reject it or anything. But your return will have to wait in our processing stage until the e-filing systems are back up and it can be transmitted to the IRS.

And if you need any help during this time, we’ll be here! Well, not on Memorial Day, but the other times! Just give us a call, send us a live chat, or email us at support@ExpressTaxFilings.com.
