Last Minute Form 990 Filing Tips
Know Your Deadline
One great tip is to become familiar with your Form 990 deadline, which can change depending on your organization’s tax year. For example, if you’re on a calendar tax year as an organization that operates for 12 consecutive months and ends in December, your Form 990 is due annually on May 15.
That’s five months and fifteen days after the deadline. If your organization has a fiscal tax year, meaning it operates for 12 consecutive months that end in any month besides December, your Form 990 is due five months and 15 days after your tax year ends. If your fiscal tax year ended in July then your Form 990 is due by December 15th.
Get More Time
Now if you do need to file Form 990 this month, we know that it can be a bit of a hassle with the holiday season keeping you busy. Wouldn’t it be nice to just have a little more time to file? Well, you’re in luck because you can file Form 8868 for an automatic 6-month extension!
