How to Delete a Return


Mistakes happen… It’s a natural part of life. Filing your taxes normally isn’t as simple as a walk in the park either. For whatever reason, whether you’ve entered incorrect information, or you didn’t even have the proper information to begin with, there may come a time when you want to drop what you’ve started and begin all over again.


There are few instances when we, at ExpressTaxFilings, receive phone calls from users about how to delete a tax return that they’ve started. With this blog, you can see how quick and easy it is to delete a previously-started tax return for our line of products.




ExpressTaxFilings
When e-filing with ExpressTaxFilings and you need to delete a return,

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click the “Details” link for the form you want to delete in your Dashboard screen.
  3. Click the small square next to the recipient’s name to select which forms you want to delete.
  4. Click the red “Delete” link near the bottom to delete all your selected forms at once, or click the “Delete” link under the “Action” column to delete your forms individually.

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click the “Delete this Return” link on the left side of your Dashboard screen underneath the brief summary of the form you were e-filing.



























ExpressExtension

If you need to delete a form you’ve started with ExpressExtension,

  1. Login to your account.
  2. Click the “Continue where you left off” link in the “Action” column of the form you want to delete on your Dashboard screen.
  3. Click the red “Delete” link near the top of the “Summary of the Return” screen.



























Please Note: You can only delete a form that has NOT been transmitted to the IRS. Once you transmit to the IRS, you won’t be able to delete the form under any circumstances, even if the form is rejected.


If your form is rejected, you’ll need to correct any errors found within your form and then re-transmit that same form. And all forms filed through ExpressTaxFilings can be refiled at no charge.
