Welcome To ExpressTaxFilings | IRS Form 1099-R

I am in a fabulous mood today and it’s not only because of the wonderful weather we have been having down here in South Carolina, but it’s because ExpressTaxFilings.com has added a brand new IRS tax form! IRS Form 1099-R is the newest addition to the IRS forms provided by ExpressTaxFilings that can be easily e-filed and transmitted to the IRS in no time.

The evolution of technology has always been entertaining to me and the fact that more and more tax forms are continuously coming available for e-filing just amazes me. Lame I know, but just think of all the trees that are saved because they aren’t being cut down to create IRS tax forms – just amazing.

What is Form 1099-R?
Form 1099-R is used to report various distributions of retirement benefits, including pensions, annuities, profit-sharing plans, IRAs, insurance contracts, or other retirement plans. This form can also be used for most public and private pension plans that are not included in the Civil Service System. You will receive a copy of Form 1099-R is you receive distributions of $10 or more from your retirement plan.

When is it due?
There are a few deadlines to know about for Form 1099-R.

  • February 2nd – Form 1099-R must be provided to recipients
  • March 2nd – Paper filing deadline of Form 1099-R
  • March 31st – E-filing deadline of Form 1099-R. When you e-file, instead of paper file, you have an extended deadline already and it is so much easier to simply e-file.
Who would file Form 1099-R?
As mentioned earlier in this blog, you will receive a 1099-R if you also receive $10 or more from your retirement plan. In addition to these distributions, it is used to report conversions, rollovers, and recharacterizations.
  • Conversions: Funds moved from a traditional retirement plan to a Roth IRA
  • Rollovers: Funds moved from your retirement savings plan into another account
  • Recharacterizations: This is when you reverse a rollover or conversion to a Roth IRA.
This is just a little information on the When, What, and Who. You can always find out more by visiting ExpressTaxFilings.com or by contacting the ExpressTaxFilings Support Team via phone: 803-514-5155 or email: support@expresstaxfilings.com
