It’s the 1099 & W-2 E-filing Deadline!
|Well, TaxBandits, the end is in sight, for your 2019 1099 and W-2 forms. Yes, we’ve been talking about it for a while, but now the deadline for the 1099 and W-2 forms is finally here, effectively ending the filing period for the 2019 calendar tax year (for these forms anyway).
But, of course, we can’t say a final adieu to the 2019 tax year without giving you a bit more e-filing information.
Today is the 1099 and W-2 E-filing Deadline
Today is the last day to get those 1099 and W-2 forms e-filed with the IRS. That means you have until 11:59 p.m. your time to transmit your returns. Otherwise, your forms are considered late, and the IRS does not take kindly to that.
Today is also the ACA Recipient Copy Deadline
That means any 1095-B or 1095-C forms that you need to send out to your recipients or employees must be postmarked today. Beginning next year, this deadline will be January 31, so make sure to be prepared to file earlier next year.
You Still Have Time to File an Extension
Extension Form 8809, to be exact. Form 8809 can be e-filed (again, by 11:59 p.m. tonight) for an automatic 30-day extension for your 1099 and W-2 Forms. You can go ahead and file it in TaxBandits before you start on your returns to be on the safe side; the IRS won’t penalize you if you file for an extension and end up not using it.
In future years, you’ll be able to use Form 8809 to extend the deadline to e-file your ACA forms with the IRS as well. However, since the IRS has already extended this deadline (normally today, this year it’s June 30), they figured you’d be able to get them e-filed without the extra 30 days.
