What are Forms 1096 and W-3?

These forms must be attached to your 1099s and W-2s if you paper file them with the IRS/SSA. 

Form 1096 is the transmittal form for Forms 1099

Form W-3 is the transmittal form for Form W-2

Are Forms 1096 and W-3 required for e-filing? 

No, this is one of the many reasons that e-filing is simpler and faster than mailing in paper forms!  When you file electronically, Forms 1096 and W-3 are not required, so this is one less step between you and successful filing!

What if I want Forms 1096 and W-3 for my records?

To download Forms 1096 or W-3, simply navigate to the 1099/W2 tab in your TaxBandits account. Select either Form 1099 or Form W2 to view the forms that you have transmitted to the IRS. In the upper right-hand corner, you will see the option to either “Download Form W-3” or “Download Form 1096”. Click here to download these Forms.
